AG Respects Judiciary Commands

Attorney General the Hon. Justin Simon QC says ignoring the pending judgments by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal regarding the two pending election lawsuits will not reflect well on the level of respect for the judiciary commands.

In a statement on Thursday, the Queen’s Counsel noted that it is his belief that all parties should await the judgments in the boundaries and registration cases, before proceeding further with election matters.

Simon is cautioning against questioning the personal integrity or moral principles of judges, on the grounds that it may undermine the administration of justice.

He noted that while it is common for a court judgment to be criticized, especially among legal scholars, it should not be done arbitrarily.

On Friday morning close to 300 Opposition Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party supporters converged outside the Office of the Prime Minister, demanding that Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer announce a date for general elections.
