The country’s chief environment officer is pleased with the outcome of a recent consultation addressing concerns on the draft Environment Management Act.

Dianne Black-Layne says the Act, which is yet to go before Parliament, is very wide-ranging and has far-reaching effects and the level of representation showed at the consultation was impressive.

Black-Layne says she’s hoping to see the Act go before parliament as soon as possible and passed into law.

She added that the legislation addresses major environment concerns, hence the urgency.

The Environment Protection and Management Act is a model legislation within the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean State.

Establishing a legal regime for sustainable environmental protection and management in the country, the Act outlines various areas around the north coast that should be designated as a protected area.
