GOVERNMENT RELAXES MORE RESTRICTIONS

The hours of curfew have been reduced in Antigua and Barbuda giving members of the public and the business community more time to operate.
The new curfew hours are from 9pm until 5am starting tonight.
The announcement was made by Information Minister the Hon. Melford Nicholas following today’s cabinet meeting.

In the meantime, government will be going to Parliament to seek approval for an extension in the state of emergency for another 60 days. The curfew period will be extended for another 30 days but under the state of emergency, government will be empowered by legislation to either reduce or extend the period of time or the curfew hours.
Another major development is that the beaches are now opened every day, weekends included. But they will remain closed on public holidays for now.

Further the government has decided to allow churches to hold certain ceremonies to include funerals, weddings and baptisms.

In terms of a timeframe for regular church services to resume, Minister Nicholas says this is still subject to consultations between the Minister of Social Transformation the Hon. Samantha Marshall and the church organisations.
