Opening Of The Cancer Center Delayed

The cancer rate in Antigua and Barbuda is extremely high, especially breast and prostate cancer. That’s according to Minister of Health the Hon. Molwyn Joseph, who further notes that there will be a slight delay in the opening of the cancer centre.

In the interim, the health minister notes that mobile cancer units equipped with the latest technology will be put in place. The units, he adds, will also offer blood tests and other general services as well as cater to the elderly.

Special rates, according to Joseph will be offered at the facility for Antiguans and Barbudans, as well as nationals of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

An integrated approach is also being taken where the Mount St John’s Medical Centre will play a pivotal role to the cancer facility.

This, he says, will develop the capacity for the MSJMC to become a sub-regional facility.
