Police to investigate drowning death

Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman, suspected to have drowned at Rendezvous Bay over the weekend.

Darnel Barzey of Montserrat died after disappearing while swimming with family members at the beach on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses told police the deceased complained of difficulty standing and soon became submerged under the water as she attempted to exit the sea.

A police press release says first responders from the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue attempted to resuscitate the woman who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Barzey, who last resided in the United Kingdom, was staying with family in Grays Farm.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
