Symbolic Activities In Antigua As The Nation Joined The Global Observation Of The International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women

Get ready to Orange the World End Violence Against Women and Girls.

It is a chant which like-minded organizations are hoping will become a part of daily thought, especially starting with the youth.

So from students to teachers, activists to ministers of government, the charge has been issued, as Antigua and Barbuda commences its 16 days of Activism to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

Organized by local activist group Intersect, Wednesday’s event also commemorates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The activity wasalso held in conjunction with the Directorate of Gender Affairs, and sponsored by Art.Culture.Antigua.

The colour orange symbolizes encouragement, and the United Nations Secretary General’s Campaign – Unite to End Violence against Women – has proclaimed the 25th of each month as orange day.

Acting Director of Gender Affairs, Farmala Jacobs, pleaded for collective awareness, and applauded those who have so far taken a stand.
