An update now on the government’s latest initiative to safeguard the environment…

The country is now firmly on the path to eliminating the use of Styrofoam containers, a phased process which will be fully implemented by the end of next year.

Even as this is being done, the Health and Environment Ministry is ensuring the alternatives are safe and fully bio-degradable.

Indera James is the Ministry staffer who has been leading the effort the effort; she explains.

Another is the PLA cornstarch products. These are required to be non-genetically modified since genetically modified products are linked to a higher cancer risk.

She says importers must ensure their products are certified in line with ASTM and other international standards.

James advises that training will be held until June 30.
