2025 Wreath Laying Ceremony Honours National Heroes

Published

on

Officials gathered at Heroes’ Park early Monday to pay homage to Antigua & Barbuda’s five fallen National Heroes: Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, Dame Georgianna ‘Nellie’ Robinson, King Court/Prince Klaas, Sir George Herbert Walter, and Sir Lester Bryant Bird.  The ceremony is an integral feature of Independence celebrations this year, being celebrated under the theme ‘Solid. Stable. Soaring.’

Speaking at the event, Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams, called on nationals to continue to be inspired by the legacies of the heroes and to ‘walk steadfastly and soar together toward the destiny they envisaged’.  Laying wreaths were Hon. E.P. Chet Greene representing Prime Minister Browne, Hon. Daryll Matthew, Minister responsible for Independence celebrations, Ambassadors from Venezuela and Britain, Chief of Defence Staff, Acting Police Commissioner, a representative from the Bird family, and representatives from the T.O.R. Memorial School and the Antigua & Barbuda Reparations Support Commission.
