A&B LAMENTS U.S. POLICY TARGETING COUNTRIES BUYING VENEZUELAN HYDROCARBONS

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says a decision by the United States to impose a 25 per cent tariff on countries purchasing oil or gas from Venezuela, is unfortunate.

President Donald Trump signed the executive order earlier this week, citing what he says is Venezuela’s hostility towards the United States among the rationale for the tariffs. ​

Prime Minister Browne says the South American country’s Petrocaribe initiative was a lifeline, especially during the global financial crisis and Antigua and Barbuda remains very grateful.

He insists the twin-island state maintains its principled stance of being friends of all.
