ABEC Office Vandalized
The new headquarters for the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has been vandalized.
That’s according to a press statement sent out by ABEC which indicates that the office was broken into sometime between the hours of 6pm on September 17 and 7am on September 18.
The release states that the perpetrator(s) left several windows shattered at the Factory Road building, formerly the home to the Peace Corps. The back door and cupboards were found ajar and a newly acquired transformer was stolen.
The unfortunate occurrence coincides with the official launch of the Commission’s re-registration drive, but Chief Administrative Officer Gary Peters insists that it may delay but will not impede the process.
Calling the offense an attack on the Commission, Peters says it will not be taken lightly, however the body must focus on registration and ensure that individuals in Antigua and Barbuda understand what the re-registration process entails.
Peters urges persons to register early.
