ABS’ GARFIELD BURFORD AMONG GLOBAL JOURNALISTS SELECTED FOR US VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
ABS’ Director of News, Sports and Current Affairs, Garfield Burford is in the United States at the invitation of the State Department participating in the International Visitor Leadership Programme, IVLP. Burford is among journalists nominated and selected from several countries around the world for the State Department’s flagship exchange programme. The US Embassy in Barbados says the media professionals are participating in the “Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists – New and Traditional Broadcast Media.”
Participants are engaged in a whirlwind schedule across the US in which they are reviewing the history and importance of press freedom in the United States as well as the structure, practices, and future of broadcast journalism in the US.
Burford’s participation in the IVLP comes weeks after he was nominated by the Caribbean Broadcasting Union as one of its two representatives on the news committee of the World Broadcasting Unions. The other regional journalist is Stetson Babb of Starcom Network.
Meanwhile, ABS Television/Radio will host the 54th Annual General Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union in August, 2023. ABS’ General Manager, Erna-Mae Brathwaite is among regional media executives who have been elected to the CBU’s Board.
