Alex Wharton Named Teacher of The Year Finalist

An Antiguan and Barbudan national has been named a finalist for teacher of the year in South Carolina in the US. 

Long time educator, Alex Wharton, is a Special Education resource teacher at Berkely High School.  She was shocked as the announcement was made by School, District, and State officials.  Wharton is one of five teachers in the final running.

She has her roots in the Grays Green community and is an ordained Minister of Religion.  

As a finalist, she received US$10,000.00.  The winner will be announced on April 23, 2026.  The main prize is 25-thousand dollars and use of a brand new BMW for one year as a roving ambassador.
