ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA MOBILIZING TO ASSIST SVG

Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has announced Antigua and Barbuda is among the countries mobilizing support for St Vincent and the Grenadines amidst the looming threat of an explosive volcanic eruption. Prime Minister Browne told the ABS Evening News Thursday the country is prepared to accommodate “a few hundred” Vincentians at the Jolly Beach Hotel.

Prime Minister Browne also says Antigua-based airline LIAT is on stand-by to assist with the evacuation. Thousands of Vincentians have been asked to leave a red zone in the North of the main island as the La Soufriere Volcano shows increasing signs portending an imminent explosive eruption. The government of Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves issued the evacuation notice mid-afternoon Thursday.
