ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA MOURNS THE PASSING OF DR. SIR PRINCE RAMSEY
A pall of grief hangs over the nation as the renowned family physician Dr Sir Prince Ramsey died Friday afternoon at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre.
He had been ailing for some time.
Sir Prince has been a towering figure in healthcare in this country and beyond; he has literally touched the lives of countless citizens here.
His lifetime of service to this nation spanned a variety of fields, particularly in medicine, where he was best known for his pioneering work in public education and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
Only last year, the United Nations honoured Sir Prince with its Population Award for his outstanding work in the area of population and reproductive health solutions.
For his tireless efforts, he has been honoured by this nation several times for his unstinting service not only in the area of health but as a cultural icon.
He is the writer of scores of calypso songs, a number of them which have earned their performers the top honours on the stage in Antigua.
A flood of tributes continue to pour in as a grateful nation reflects on his life and legacy.
