ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA TO WRITE TO UK GOVERNMENT REGARDING KING CHARLES’ CLIMATE ADVOCACY
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne has announced that Antigua and Barbuda will write to the United Kingdom Government regarding latitude for King Charles III, to continue his global advocacy on climate change. The Prime Minister says this is the most significant threat affecting the planet. There has been heightened discussion regarding the extent to which the King will carry on his awareness activities which he championed as Prince, given the expectation the head of state will be neutral on such matters.
Prime Minister Browne made the announcement to ABS News after meeting with King Charles at Buckingham Palace on Sunday. He extended condolences to the King on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II and congratulated the Monarch on his ascension to the throne, as they shook hands at Buckingham Palace.
Prime Minister Browne was among Commonwealth realm leaders who met with King Charles ahead of the Queen’s state funeral on Monday. The British Monarch is head of state of the UK and over a dozen other constitutional monarchies, including Antigua and Barbuda. Prime Minister Browne later told ABS News he had positive and fruitful discussions with Antigua and Barbuda’s new ceremonial head of state on crucial matters including climate change, Barbuda and republicanism.
