ANTIGUA TO MAKE ANOTHER PITCH TO SAVE LIAT
Antigua and Barbuda will make another attempt to convince majority shareholders to keep LIAT in the air at a shareholders’ meeting next Monday.
Information Minister, the Hon. Melford Nicholas says following discussions Wednesday, the Cabinet still believes the Antigua-based airline can be saved.
The Minister says collapsing LIAT will pose significant economic challenges for several stakeholders including pilots and other staff.
He says a letter from St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves suggests consideration to restructure LIAT would not be taken onboard until after the planned liquidation.
He says the government believes LIAT is the best and most immediate option for air travel within the Caribbean.
