BABY KAIRO SPENCER TO BE AIRLIFTED FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY
Two week old Kairo Spencer will be airlifted to Jamaica for emergency surgery.
Kairo was born prematurely on January 16th and was diagnosed with Small Bowel or Intestinal Atresia.
The condition is one in which there is a narrowing of the segment of the intestine that connects the stomach to the large intestine.
This condition means Kairo has not eaten since birth and often regurgitates any food given to him via intravenous methods.
The Calvin Ayre Foundation is funding his travel, with a donation of 62-thousand, 3-hundred and twenty seven eastern Caribbean dollars.
The travel to Jamaica is crucial since this type of surgery is not offered in Antigua.
His dad Tarik Spencer says it’s a very emotional time.
The donation from the Calvin Ayre Foundation will cover the air ambulance to Jamaica’s Bustamante Hospital for Children, the cost of surgery and hospitalization.
Kairo’s parents were very grateful for the assistance as they accepted the donation Tuesday.
CAF’s Executive Director, Corinna Delowsky said two weeks old Kairohis first time parents’ story really stood outfor the foundation.
She hopes the contribution gives Kairo a fighting chance.
