BAHAMAS IMPOSES TWO-WEEK LOCKDOWN AS COVID-19 CASES CLIMB

The Government in the Bahamas has announced a two-week lockdown as new COVID-19 cases continue to climb. The lockdown begins 10pm, Tuesday, August 4. Bahamians will only be allowed to visit food stores and other essential service establishments on certain days during the period. There have been mixed reactions to the measures, with some residents expressing strong support for Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ decision, while others have criticized the measure as being unfair and too sudden.

The announcement comes as 31 more cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Monday in the archipelago of islands in the Northern Caribbean. The total number of cases is now 679, with most of those cases, 320, in Grand Bahama, while there are 291 in New Providence.
