BARBADOS RECORDS 211 COVID-19 CASES IN 48 HOURS
Barbados confirmed 211 cases of COVID-19 during the first two days of 2021, pushing its case count to 606. Health officials say 198 of the new cases were recorded on New Year’s Day and the remaining 13 on Saturday. Most of the new cases have been at Her Majesty’s Prison, Dodds, where 121 inmates and 49 staff members tested positive. Officials also say 275 people are in isolation, 32 of whom are awaiting clinical assessment. Most of the new cases have emerged following a bus crawl on Boxing Day which turned out to have been a super-spreader event. Barbados has since reimposed containment measures, including a 9pm to 5am curfew until at least January 14. The country is also preparing to begin using tracking bracelets for people in quarantine.
