‘BLUE IS NOT THE CODE FOR SURE’ – PM BROWNE TAKES JIBE AT UPP FOLLOWING REGIONAL ELECTIONS
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says “blue is not the code for sure” in Antigua and Barbuda, as he assesses the current political climate in the wake of recent election results in the region. There was the refrain of ‘yellow is the code’ as the New Democratic Party swept to power in St Vincent and the Grenadines, unseating the Unity Labour Party of Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
However, days later, the St Lucia Labour Party retained the reins of government with a second consecutive landslide victory over the United Workers Party.
Prime Minister Browne congratulated his St Lucian colleague, Phillip J. Pierre, and attended the swearing-in ceremony in Castries on Friday.
He says the SLP showed that red is the code in St Lucia, and made it clear “blue is not the code” in Antigua and Barbuda, in a reference to the chances of the main opposition United Progressive Party in the next general election constitutionally due no later than 2028.
