BRITAIN YET TO MAKE FORMAL REQUEST UNDER MLAT REGARDING YACHTS
Antigua and Barbuda is yet to receive a formal request from the United Kingdom in pursuit of sanctions against two yachts in English Harbour purported to be connected to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to the United States and Organisation of American States, Sir Ronald Sanders tells ABS News it has been made clear to the British High Commission what they need to do if they wish to have Antigua and Barbuda’s legal assistance.
He says if they are convinced the two vessels are owned by Abramovich, they will need to make a request in a form that would satisfy the court under this country’s Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, or MLAT.
He says it is now up to the British authorities to make the request, but nothing has yet been heard from them.
Sir Ronald had also made those issues clear as he was interviewed recently by Britain’s Channel 4.
