The recovery in the country’s tourism industry will receive another major boost with news emerging today that British Airways is to resume daily flights within weeks.

Tourism Minister Hon. Charles Fernandez provided the timeline for the return of the airline during an interview with ABS news.

The Minister is delighted with the news and says it is indicative of the strength of the country’s tourism product.

British Airways was forced to suspend flights to the country as England went into a one month lockdown until 2nd December.

This news follows the announcement that Virgin Atlantic will continue flights into the country.

The country will continue to receive twice weekly flights Wednesdays and Saturdays to and from London Heathrow through to 21st November.

Thereafter, Virgin will provide a weekly Sunday service until the end of the UK’s national lockdown on the 2nd December.

It followed a series of successful meetings among senior officials from the UK carrier, a team of tourism officials led by Minister Fernandez, and representatives from the Antigua Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association.
