BRITISH PM THERESA MAY TO RESIGN

Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May has announced 7th June, 2019 as the date for her resignation, bowing to growing pressure over the handling of Brexit. Mrs May made the announcement during an emotional statement on Friday. She said she had done her best to deliver Brexit and it was a matter of “deep regret” that she was unable to do so.

Her resignation will pave the way for a leadership contest, but she will continue as Prime Minister while the leadership contest takes place. Among those will be vying for the leadership of the conservative party will be Boris Johnson, Esther McVey and Rory Stewart.

She has been Prime Minister for nearly three years, a period dominated by the travails over the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.
