CANADA’S PRIME MINISTER CANCELS CARIBBEAN VISIT AT THE LAST MINUTE
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will no longer travel to Barbados this week to meet with Caricom leaders at their intersessional meeting. He will instead be represented by his Foreign Minister , Francois Phillipe-Champagne. The Prime Minister has called off his visit to respond to growing protests over a natural gas pipeline in Eastern Canada. The demonstrators support Canada’s indigenous First Nations people who are displeased about the pipleline construction through their traditional lands.
Mr Trudeau had been scheduled to meet with Caricom heads ahead of Canada’s bid for a United Nations Security Council seat. He was also scheduled to discuss crucial issues of co-operation with the Caribbean.
