Mandela Spencer has a year to pay a fine of $11,000 or spend a year in prison. The sentence was handed down by Senior Magistrate N’gaio Emanuel on Friday morning, after Spencer’s conviction for possession of 369 grams of cannabis. The 39-year-old Cedar Valley resident was reprimanded and discharged for the possession of eight cannabis plants.

Fellow Cedar Valley resident, Nyana Alfred, is to spend a month in prison for possessing four rounds of .25 mm ammunition. Alfred was reprimanded and discharged for the possession of 0.2 grams of cocaine.

Both were represented by attorney Wendel Alexander.

Spencer and Alfred were nabbed on Tuesday, when the contraband were seized during an operation by the Criminal Investigation Department Taskforce.
