CHILD JUSTICE ACT BEING APPLIED TO AZOO’S ALLEGED ATTACKERS
Acting Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney explains why there has been no arrests in the alleged aggravated robbery of 17-year-old Jahhym Azoo.
According to the Top Cop, police are ensuring they follow procedures set out in the Child Justice Act since the suspects are all minors, under the age of 18.
The Act, which was enacted by Parliament in late 2015, has established a Child Justice Board to deal with the initial enquiries into allegations against the child.
The child, or in this case children, must also be assessed by a social worker prior to being taken before the board.
Acting Commissioner Rodney says police are monitoring the victims condition.
