CONSTRUCTION FOR NEW CELLS TO BEGIN WITHIN A MONTH

This means the government is a step closer to reducing overcrowding at the country’s sole penitentiary.
The confirmation comes from Public Safety Minister, the Honourable Steadroy Benjamin.

Approximaltely 300 prisoners are currently housed at Her Majesty’s prison, which was built in 1735 with a capacity for 150 inmates.

He says once the remand section of the prison is cleared, the government will get a chance to renovate Her Majesty’s Prison to bring it up to modern standards.
