Christmas kitchens will be bustling on Christmas Day as families prepare holiday feasts.
But firefighters say the combination of multiple dishes cooking at once and increased foot traffic creates serious fire risks. Officers from the St. John’s Fire Station say that makes fire prevention critical. Corporal Marlene Carr-Henry says calling the fire department immediately is critical, no matter how small the fire appears. If trained in fire extinguisher use, homeowners can attempt to fight small fires only after ensuring everyone has evacuated to a safe area. But Carr-Henry stresses this requires practice.
