Cricket Legend Sir Vivian Richards Presents Commemorative Bat to Their Majesties
Batting legend Sir Vivian Richards has presented a signed cricket bat to King Charles and Queen Camilla. The former West Indies captain made the presentation to Their Majesties at the annual Commonwealth Day reception held at St James’s Palace.
The UK Independent says the bat is adorned with emblems of the West Indies cricket team and features a reference to the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be hosted by Antigua and Barbuda in November.
Sir Vivian said, “As you know, we’re hosting the 56 nations in our region, so this is just a little gift to you.”
The Monarch, who is head of the Commonwealth and also head of state of Antigua and Barbuda, quipped that playing cricket across the Caribbean islands during his Royal Navy days “nearly killed” him.
