Customs No Longer Assists In The Collection Police Tax Compliance
The Customs Division says it is discontinuing the practice of assisting the Inland Revenue Department police tax compliance by importers and business operators.
This decision comes after the Government of Antigua and Barbuda made the decision to discontinue the tax compliance certificate requirement.
Public Relations Officer and Senior Customs Officer, Milton Aska, says importers now, will be able to clear their goods at the port without the hastle of first obtaining a valid tax compliance certificate.
Aska says the law will be re-visited by the parliament of Antigua and Barbuda but until then the Comptroller of Customs has the sole authority to waive the certificate.
He continued that once all customs checks are done and payments have been made the goods will be released.
