There will be an additional boost in border security mechanisms as Customs seeks to fully embrace its role in protecting the country’s ports of entry.
Comptroller of Customs, Raju Badoo, says in the past, customs has only been viewed as a revenue-collection agency.
He expresses thanks to the Minister of National Security, Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin, for understanding how important Customs is in border security.
Later this year, Badoo says customs officers will be provided with additional training and will also bear arms.
A canine unit will also be a feature in the department’s operations.
