DCA SAYS TWO-WEEK NOTICE ISSUED BEFORE DISMANTLING MORRIS BAY STRUCTURE; MP PRINGLE FUMES

The Development Control Authority has carried out enforcement actions in Morris Bay, dismantling a structure on the beach, which it says had been in breach of planning control stipulations.

The structure belongs to Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, who was fuming after a team from the DCA, backed by the police, carried out the enforcement action on Wednesday.

The DCA says the operation was carried out after a 14-day ultimatum expired for the occupier to cease “all operation of this trailer and to remove the trailer, associated seating tents and any related fixtures from the site.”

That enforcement notice took effect on November 18, 2025 and expired on December 2, 2025.

The DCA outlined in a release on Wednesday, “The exercise is not targeting any specific individual or group; notices were issued consistently, transparently, and over several years and the action taken is strictly in accordance with the Physical Planning Act and national development guidelines.”

The DCA also said, “This activity forms part of a long-standing compliance process, not a sudden or targeted operation.”

Pringle had struck a defiant tone in Parliament on Monday as he spoke about the situation, insisting, “when you all think of moving people, do not set foot in Old Road, because I am going to stand with the people and ensure that we protect our beach out there.”

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has commented on the unfolding situation, indicating, “The consequence of breaking the law with impunity and the promotion of lawlessness.  We are a country of laws.  No one; parliamentarian, PM, businessman or ordinary citizen, is above the law.  This country will not be allowed to disintegrate into chaos and confusion, we will stand against lawlessness by anyone.”
