DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE CALLS FOR DIGITAL TRACKING SYSTEM
Antigua and Barbuda’s Director of Agriculture, Gregory Bailey, has called for a National Digital Tracking System to summarily monitor the food chain on island.
From production to consumption, Bailey says the assessment of food safety will be significantly improved if all food can be traced to its original source. Through the system, officials will be able to identify the farmer, wholesaler, and retailer involved in the food chain. He says digital tracking will also discourage praedial larceny.
Bailey says under the current system there is a tedious process of sorting through piles of paper.
The Agriculture Director says the system will also need to be legislatively mandated to ensure it works.
