DPP TO MULL LEGAL OPTIONS IF LEE MARTIN-CRAMP FAILS TO INVOKE PRISONER EXCHANGE TREATY
The Director of Public prosecutions could begin weighing options within weeks to get former British police officer Lee Martin-Cramp to spend the rest of his sentence in the United Kingdom as had been agreed.
The disgraced British police officer is serving a 15-year sentence in Antigua and Barbuda for rape after having been extradited from Britain.
He lost an appeal at the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council last month to overturn his conviction and sentence.
It was agreed between British and Antiguan and Barbudan authorities prior to his extradition he would serve his sentence in the UK once he was convicted and exhausted all avenues of appeal.
With no further legal options available to Martin-Cramp, ABS News understands DPP Anthony Armstrong expects him to honour this agreement by invoking the Exchange of Prisoners Treaty between Antigua and Barbuda and the United Kingdom.
However, lawyers for the convicted rapist are yet to make a move in the matter.
Impeccable sources tell ABS News DPP Armstrong could begin considering his next move in a matter of weeks.
