Foreign Affairs Minister, Charles “Max” Fernandez Says That The Bahamas Is Currently The Only Caribbean Territory, Which Is A Member Of This Body.
Plans are afoot for the country’s bid to be elected as part of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in 2017.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Charles “Max” Fernandez says that the Bahamas is currently the only Caribbean territory, which is a member of this body.
He explains that membership to the council will greatly enhance the country’s status as an attractive jurisdiction to register one’s vessel.
The London High Commission will play its part in lobbying for this candidacy in consultation with Antigua and Barbuda’s Department of Maritime Services and Shipping.
The IMO is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping.
Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented.
