Free Eye-care By Chinese Doctors Set To Begin
The People’s Republic China is making it possible for a number of Chinese Eye care specialiststo offer cataract surgery free of charge to residents and citizens of Antigua and Barbuda.
Chinese Ambassador Ren. Gongping notes this is as a result of Prime Minister the Hon. Gaston Browne’s visit to China last August,which injected new momentum into the friendship between both countries.
Although there has been a long void in the area of eye surgery in the country, Minister of Health the Hon. Molwyn Joseph, says with this service, the treatment of cataracts should become a routine here on island.
The National Health and family planning commission of the People’s Republic of China, offered the services which not only provide eye care specialists but equipment as well. The equipment will remain at MSJMC on completion of the project.
The services of the doctors and nurses are from one of the top medical care institutions in China, Beijing Tongren Hospital.
Minister Joseph says some 200 persons are eligible for this service and many more who will be screened in the upcoming weeks. The health minister is urging people to come forward and access the service by calling the Ministry at 460-9425.
