FULL ‘DEMERIT POINTS’ SYSTEM TO BE ENFORCED AMID SURGE IN CRASHES
Cabinet has reiterated its support for a system which allows motorists to lose points from their driver’s licences. Cabinet says this is among a raft of measures to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws in the wake of recent crashes, two of which have resulted in fatalities.
The ‘demerit points’ system is intended to penalise repeat traffic offenders.
Cabinet is asking motorists to recommit to basic safety practices, recognising a worrying surge in deadly crashes, with eight lives lost on the roads so far this year.
