Ghanaian Healthcare Workers to Arrive Today
Some 112 healthcare workers out of Ghana are expected to arrive on island later today.
Government officials say they recruited them after glaring shortages in nurse staffing became obvious and the evident need to boost the provision of public health services across Antigua & Barbuda. It’s also meant to address reports current nurses are overworked and burnt out.
Health Ministry officials say the cadre of healthcare professionals from the West African country will include mental health specialists and nurses. And they will be almost immediately deployed in areas to include the operating theatre, emergency room, dialysis unit, and intensive care unit at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC).
But Cabinet reports also indicate some will be used within community health clinics and schools.
