Government Moves To Increase Security At Its Ports Of Entry With The Passage Of An Advanced Passenger Legislation..
Two important pieces of legislation have been passed in Parliament aimed at increasing the security provisions at the country’s main ports of entry.
The Advanced Passenger information bill and the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Bill were unimpeded in their passage through the House.
Mover of both pieces of legislation, Immigration Minister Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez explains that Antigua and Barbuda was proving to be a leader in ensuring that laws are in place to protect travelers and citizens in general by.
In contributing to debate, Telecommunications Minister Melford Nicholas explains that the legislation ensures that information is shared in rapid fashion across borders so that any security threats can be eliminated.
Looking ahead, Nicholas explains that the government will have to bring more legislation of this nature to the House to conform with the increased security regulations around the globe. He used the opportunity to urge certain sections of the public to be responsible in their commentary on such initiatives.
