Government Pledges to End Regiment Conscription
HAMILTON, Bermuda, Jul 12, CMC — Premier Michael Dunkley says legislation to end conscription to the Bermuda Regiment will be brought to the House of Assembly during its next session, paving the way for the defence unit to become an all-volunteer force.
Dunkley told the House of Assembly on Friday said that while the transition would take more than “a stroke of a pen”, a considerable amount of planning to halt the practice of conscription had been undertaken over the past two months.
