GOVERNMENT PROPOSES SEVERAL BENEFITS FOR FORMER LIAT EMPLOYEES
The government is proposing several benefits for severed LIAT workers and wants regional governments to match the offers.
Cabinet says while there is no legal requirement, countries where LIAT once operated have a moral obligation to pay severance to the former employees.
In addition to payments in cash, the government says it will be offering scholarships.
Information Minister, the Hon. Melford Nicholas says LIAT, currently under administration, does not have the resources to pay severance.
The government says it will appeal to the regional governments through LIAT Administrator Cleveland Seaforth.
It is hoping the governments will make payments to their nationals once negotiations are completed with the unions representing the workers.
