HEALTH MINISTER ANNOUNCES SHARP INCREASE IN SPECIALISTS AT SLBMC

Health Minister Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph says government’s investment in human capital is strengthening the country’s healthcare system, as he points to a growing number of medical professionals pursuing advanced training.

He reveals several doctors are currently away on study leave in key specialty areas.

The minister also outlines a significant increase in specialist doctors at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre from 65 in 2014, when the Gaston Browne administration took office, to 151 currently.

He says 99 of these are Antiguans and Barbudans, a shift which he says underscores the impact of sustained investment in local medical training.
