HEALTH MINISTER EXPLAINS GOVERNMENT’S DECISION ON VACCINES
Health Minister the Hon. Molwyn Joseph has clarified why the government has used more than half of the 40 thousand AstraZeneca vaccines it had in stock.
He says after 20 thousand people were vaccinated, several people over 65 years had not yet received their jab.
The Minister explains many of these people were in private nursing homes or at their homes but unable to move.
He says the medical practitioners advised the typical procedure was to reserve half of the vaccines for second doses.
However, Minister Joseph says Cabinet decided to use seven thousand of the 20 in storage since the government was given assurance that COVAX would deliver at least 14 thousand additional doses soon.
He says in the meantime, nurses are making house visits in every district vaccinating elderly residents.
