HON DARYLL MATTHEW SPEAKS ON ECCO

Culture and National Festivals minister, Hon Daryll Matthew says though he understands the importance of ECCO collecting royalties on behalf of creators, the method of implementation was wrong.

Minister Matthew says he has made a three part recommendation to the CEO of the body as to how to deal with the matter going forward.

The Culture minister says it’s important that ECCO take advantage of the attention they now have from the public.
He says the recommendation which was made to establish a tribunal has been put on hold for the time being.
The tribunal will now be put in place only if the need arises.
