HUNDREDS OF FORMER JOLLY BEACH HOTEL WORKERS VERIFY THEIR SEVERANCE PAYMENTS

Over 200 former employees of the Jolly Beach Resort have so far verified the severance payments they are to receive.
The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union provided that update in a news release on Friday, indicating the workers have been converging on its offices for the process since Wednesday.
The union’s deputy general secretary, Chester Hughes says the on-going verification exercise will ensure that all employees are paid what is rightfully theirs.
The union says many of the hotel’s former staffers expressed relief the severance saga is finally being resolved.
More than 500 employees lost their jobs when the resort ceased operations in March 2020.
The government reached a recent deal to acquire the property and says the payment of severance to the former workers was a key priority in its negotiations.
The property has been leased to Elite Island Resorts which will renovate up to 200 rooms and welcome guests by December 1 this year.
