Improve Conditions

NASSAU, Bahamas, Feb 21, CMC – The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is calling on the Bahamas government to implement a number of recommendations to facilitate improved conditions for persons detained at the Carmichael Road Detention Center.

The IACHR said that in December last year, it had received a request for precautionary measures submitted by the Caribbean Institute for Human Rights, the International Human Rights Clinic of the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights requesting that it call on the Bahamas government to adopt measures to protect the life and physical integrity of the persons in immigration detention at Carmichael Road Detention Center.
