Independence Awards 2020

A Member of Parliament and a long standing civil servant received two of the nation’s highest awards during the Independence Ceremonial Parde this evening.
Minister of Health the Hon. Molwyn Joseph, who has distinguished himself during the ongoing pandemic, was awarded a knighthood.
Supervisor of Elections, Lorna Simon, was also honoured similarly by this nation for her outstanding contribution to the civil service.
Other outstanding Antiguans and Barbudans who received awards were former port official Winston |Gomes as well as former umpire and cricketers respectively Clancy Mack and Keith Frederick and Cleve Joseph.
Major moment for the Hellsgate Steel Orchestra, which received an award as the first institution to be so recognized under the National Honours Act.
Awards also went to Nurse Soria Dupie Winston, Corporal Timothy Philip Jr. of the Royal Police Force, aviation official Avery Henry, Wesley Simon and Lt. Carla Patreace Thomas Browne of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force.
The ceremony, despite the timing and the limited numbers in attendance because of the Covid 19 crisis, was filled with the usual pomp and circumstance including this moment:
