KRAIGG BRATHWAITE REPLACES JASON HOLDER AS WEST INDIES TEST CAPTAIN
Kraigg Brathwaite will replace Jason Holder to become the 37th test captain of the West Indies. The announcement was made Thursday evening by Cricket West Indies. Holder, who is the number one all-rounder in the ICC Test Rankings, captained the Caribbean side in 37 tests since taking over from Denesh Ramdin in 2015, with a record of 11 wins, 21 defeats and 5 draws.
CWI Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams lauded Holder, who he said “led with dignity while always upholding the highest values of the sport.”
Brathwaite has led the West Indies in seven tests while deputizing for Holder, including the most recent 2-0 series win away to Bangladesh. He is quoted as saying: “I feel extremely proud and humbled that the Board and Selectors have given me the opportunity and responsibility to lead the team.”
CWI says the squad for the first Test against the visiting Sri Lankans will be announced on Friday.
