LA SOUFRIÉRE EXPLOSIVELY ERUPTS

The LA Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent has begun explosive eruptions.

The UWI Seismic Research Centre reports the first eruption occurred early Friday at 8:41 AM.

Plumes could be seen as high as 8 kilometres and ash fall has already been recorded at Argyle International Airport some 20 miles away.

Resident have been asked to leave the Red Zone immediately.

St. Vincent Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is expected to address the nation shortly.

Several CARICOM territories have pledged support for the Windward island.
