Narendra Modi re-elected Prime Minister of India

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has retained power following a resounding general election win.

BBC News says results show Mr Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on course to win over 300 seats in the 543-seat parliament. The election has been viewed by political observers as a referendum on Prime Minister Modi’s Hindu Nationalist politics.

Over 600 million people participated in the election in a marathon 6-week exercise. India is the world’s most populous democracy with a population of over 1.3 billion.
